Sending Out E-Newsletters

I’ve just clicked the button to send out almost 1000 e-newsletters to my clients members.  I always find it somewhat nerve racking clicking that button, even though I have checked everything over and over.

This newsletter started out going to 100 people, back in the day when I would design it in html format, making it corporate with the clients logo and including the information they wanted to put in. It would then be sent out via WORD and OUTLOOK.

Email Marketing Software

This particular client has now moved onto a system called DOTMAILER, and it is a great system!  I am really pleased we have gone with them.  Our account manager Deane is extremely helpful, and even now we’ve been with them over a year, he has not lost interest in us.  Our only bad experience has been on invoicing, but it was resolved quickly and without a fuss.

The things that attracted me to using a system like this were:

  • I can import any design I have created
  • Reports and campaigns
  • Automatic bounce handling
  • Advanced ‘sign-up form’ feature
  • Unsubscribers list management
  • ‘Refer a Friend’ link, ‘Unsubscribe’ link, ‘Click to View’ link
  • Free, unlimited test sends
  • It will send HTML or plain text, depending on the receiver
  • Checks the email for errors or anything that might be seen as spam

There is also a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, meaning that you can update the newsletter yourself, once I have done the design for you.

Do contact me if you would like me to manage your e-newsletter in this way, or even just do the design.

Here is a long list of benefits of using a system like Dotmailer

Rules to Sending out an E-newsletter

  • Always send a test email to yourself
  • Go through the whole thing and test all links in that email
  • If you make ANY changes after your test, test again!
  • Make sure the website is up to date, and reflecting what it says in the e-newletter

There is nothing worse then sending out an e-newsletter with a small spelling mistake, or a dud link.  I will always send a test to you, for you to check yourself.
